Dear NAWEM Secretariat,

Greeting from ASLI.

We are pleased to inform you that the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI) will be organising the Greater KL & Smart City Summit 2017 with the theme “Unification of Smart City Concepts: Malaysia’s Next Step” on 28th February 2017 at the Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur. The Deputy Minister of Federal Territories, YB. Senator Dato' Dr. Loga Bala Mohanhas been invited to deliver the Opening Keynote Address and YB Datuk Halimah Binti Mohamed Sadique, Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing & Local Government to deliver the Closing Address on that day.

Malaysia’s ambition to become Smart City Hub for APAC has come a long since the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (Greater KL) designated as a National Key Economic Area (NKEA) under Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The current success of smart transformation especially in the IOT as well as integrated urban public transportation has created opportunity for smarter technology to take root, where cashless payment systems, security, alternative energy are becoming reality, no longer an idea. One of the advantages that Malaysia has is the ability to jump in at the right frame of time with the right tools and the exact motivation to make the market entry and sustain itself there. Smart city concept has been on the table past decade but Malaysia took cautionary steps before leaping into the game. The country immersed itself in connectivity, before moving to network creation. Once independent networks were able to sustain themselves, the society went knee deep with App, Big Data crunching, E-Wallet etc. with IOT being the choice of word for where we are at.

Within the facets of 6 criteria to earn the “Smart City “tag, we have created integrated transportation, IOT, holistic new cities of the future, such as Malaysia City, our current pride Iskandar Development and several newly announced projects. Our local entrepreneurs and E-commerce players have crossed the 1 billion landmark and we are also pushing strong for alternative utilities management which is currently the highest cost for businesses and households alike. With green as our largest agenda, everything is well aligned and is on the motion to create a better city which will progress towards the better country we all aim to be. However, the simplification of smart cities can create complicated technologies which can deter the very straight forward nature it was striving for.

ASLI has been a staunch supporter of the smart city development since year 2012 and this year, Greater KL & Smart City Summit 2017 is looking to dive further into the current and upcoming projects that will change how Malaysia would be in the next decade in regards to opportunities and gains.

In this regard, it gives us great pleasure and honour to extend Three (3) Complimentary seats to National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia NAWEM to attend the one-day Summit. We would be most grateful if you could confirm your attendance by faxing us the reply slip by 17th February 2017 (reply slip is enclosed). A copy of the programme is attached for your reference.

We hope you are able to accept our invitation so as to make this Summit a successful event. If there is anyway that we can be of any further assistance or should you require further clarification, please feel free to contact Ms. Kamala or Ms. Zaiton at tel : 603 2093 5393 ext. 221 / 219 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
