"The issue of gender balance on corporate's boards in Malaysia is not new but continues to be debated given the business and economic imperative. The topic is hot on the agenda of politicians and regulators, and  strategies varies. The UK, for example, has set targets which, to some extent, have proven efficient. Since Malaysia has set a target of 30% of women on boards, 23.2% of board seats on the top 100 PLCs are now occupied by women, an increase from 14% in 2015. In Norway they have chosen a radical, much debated, highly controversial, but undoubtedly efficient route, by many dubbed “The gender quota law”. The positive effects of having more women at the top rungs of the corporate world are well documented, BUT progress remains too slow, also in Norway."
